CBSE, ISC Class 12 board exams canceled this year due to Covid 19 status
The decision was based on student interests, the Office of the Prime Minister (PMO) quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as saying. The decision to cancel the Grade 12 exams was taken at a review meeting of Union Government chaired by Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday evening.
Hours after the upgrade, the Indian School Certificate (ISC) board exams for Class 12 were also canceled.
“The final decision on the merging of the results is yet to be made,” Dr G Immanuel, chairman of the CISCE Council, told ANI.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on April 14 announced the cancellation of the Grade 10 exams and the postponement of the Grade 12 exams due to an increase in coronavirus cases.
The Class 12 results will be done according to a well-defined process in due course, the government said in a statement.
The premier said the decision for the Class 12 CBSE Examinations was taken to encourage students. He said Covid-19 had touched on the academic calendar and the issue of the Board’s exams had raised serious concerns for students, parents and teachers, which needed to be addressed.
The prime minister said Covid’s situation was tense across the country. While statistics are declining in the country and some provinces are controlling the situation through active micro-containment, some provinces are still opting for closure. Students, parents and teachers are naturally concerned about the health of students in such a situation. The premier said students should not be forced to appear in exams in such difficult circumstances.
“The health and safety of our students is paramount and there could be no retreat,” said Modi, adding that in today’s world, such tests could not be a reason to put our youth at risk.
Commenting on the comprehensive consultation process, the Prime Minister said the decision was taken after consultation with all stakeholders from all over India. He also thanked the provinces for providing feedback on the matter.
The meeting was attended by Ministers of the Union for Home Affairs, Defense, Finance, Trade, Information and Broadcasting, Petroleum and the Minister for Child Development and the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary and Secretary for Education and Higher Education and other senior officials.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had previously chaired a conference to be called to decide on Class 12 board exams and subsequent entry exams that were postponed due to the second coronavirus wave. Submit a meeting, the government will seek detailed proposals from the provinces.
Commenting on the decision, Delhi Premier Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said: “I am very happy that 12 exams have been canceled. We have all been very concerned about the health of our children.
Many provinces have encouraged immunization of Grade 12 students in case they continue with board tests, however, experts have indicated that the idea is not yet valid.
The CBSE earlier this month announced a policy to mark the 10th board exams.
According to the policy, while 20 marks for each subject will be for internal assessment as per year, 80 marks will be calculated depending on the performance of students in various tests or examinations throughout the year.
And last month, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” chaired a meeting with state education ministers and other stakeholders to decide on the Grade 12 exam results. , Pokhriyal was inducted into the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Covid Post- Problem.
On Monday, the Institute told the Supreme Court that the decision to suspend the Grade 12 exams would be taken “in the next two days.” The Supreme Court, which adjourned the hearing on Thursday, applied for a stay of trial due to the current state of Covid-19 in the country.
